A New Year, a new OS!
A New Year, a new operating system! After trying and failing numerous times to get Linux running satisfactorily via Oracle VirtualBox - I finally bit the bullet and went for a dual booting solution.
After a week or so of using Linux, Ubuntu (18.04 LTS “Bionic Beaver”), I have to say that I’m loving it. I haven’t yet had to go into Windows once. I’ve set up Zsh with Oh My Zsh as my default shell, and I’m using the following plugins/apps - git, zsh-autosuggestions, zsh-syntax-highlighting, and the colourfully named The Fuck.
A sight to behold -
In order to celebrate further, I treated myself to a viewing of these two documentaries on the history of Linux/the free software movement 😊 -
- Revolution OS (Moore, 2001)
- The Code (Puttonen, 2001)
A side bit of trivia, I attended a talk by the philosopher A. C. Grayling this week and he mentioned Ubuntu philosophy. I had an aha moment and figured out that’s where the name for the OS comes from. Ubuntu has the meaning of “I am because we are”.
